It was a skin scorching hot afternoon, leaves fell following the movement of the wind. Took up the broom and started sweeping the leaves and hope the wind will change its direction. Strangely, there was a four legged bodied creature looming outside the gate and I had my head tilted high trying to inspect to finally realised it was a miniature pincher who was lost.
My heart was hardened when I saw its neck with a barbed wire by someone cruel. The poor doggy was looking for shelter and it appeared shy and malnourished. Without even giving myself a second thought, I ran in the kitchen with my fastest and grab a bowl of kibbles.
Slowly placed the bowl on the floor and moving away, did the poor doggy touched the food. I stood far monitoring the event and it sadden me, thoughts of many questions to why this poor doggy came to this stage. Anxiety-driven the poor lost doggy to be very alert and ran away every time I walked close to it. Finally, it ran away with great speed after finishing the bowl. My heart was heavy then, not knowing where it went and the danger of it being beaten by inhumane people in my neighborhood or maybe other strays out there.
That same day around evening, my sisters came and visited me. Heard the car engine stop followed by the doorbell. Despite the heavy heart in me, I greeted them with a warm smile and hugs. At this moment, the pincher appeared running with speed heading to my house and then slowed down standing 50 meters away from us. I was stunned and quickly related the afternoon account with my sisters. As kind as my parents, they volunteered to take care of it.
I was so happy and sad at the same time for I thought I could keep it for myself. We took around 15 mins to gained it’s trust and found out that it is a female pincher with a very friendly character, she is active and sensitive to touch. We had a cutter in hand and freed her from the barbed wore around its neck. She was so relieved, jumping around and shake it’s head while wagging it’s tail. Me and my sisters in laughing camaraderie knowing in our hearts that she belongs to us now.
We name her Poppi and she is now happy with my sister and parents. Every time I visits them, Poppi is there wagging it’s tail welcoming and greeting me. Although I might not understand her language but through her eyes, I know Poppi loves me and I loves her too.
With my limited strength and ability, I can only saved one and there are more and more strays out there. Some doggies are left by their owners because they are old and sick, some are left to die as puppies, some are being use as human meat source, some are use as breeding machines to fulfill money hunger individuals and many more sad cases…
IF ONLY I HAVE A MAGIC WAND …….
